Make the Most of a 3 Day Lapland Holiday

Lapland-Santa

Our bright and bubbly Louise, embarked on the trip of a lifetime to Lapland. An experience she will never forget.

Meeting Santa

Day 1 – The Excitement begins

I left my house at 2.30am feeling very excited to be meeting Father Christmas, the REAL Father Christmas!

It was an early flight out at 06.15am departing from London Gatwick and arriving Ivalo 12.10pm.

As we boarded the flight the magic began with the pilot asking the reindeers to help the plane take off into the air, so the children had to cheer them on!!  During the flight there was lots of fun games and prizes to keep everyone excited.

As soon as we landed and walked into the terminal, we found naughty Elves hiding the luggage as it came off the plane. The Elves were running around everywhere and the children were in fits of giggles.

As we walked out of the terminal, I immediately spotted a beautiful white reindeer out in the snow and couldn’t believe how stunning this place was.

Log Cabin

Once on the coach, it was then about a 45 minute coach transfer to Saariselka where we were dropped off at our beautiful log cabin to meet our host Bryony who had baked us delicious cookies and made us hot berry drinks.

On route to the hotel we did a quick stop to collect our thermal suits and boots ready for the snowmobiles. The staff are amazing and can pick out the correct size just by looking at you…. now that is service!

Suited and Booted for the Snowmobile Experience

After having a rest at the cabin we changed into our thermal suits ready to be collected and taken to the town centre to sign in for the snowmobiles. This was an extra activity and can be pre-booked before you travel.

Snowmobile Experience

The snowmobiles are an amazing experience and you get to drive for miles through the forest in the dark. It is extremely cold and I would recommend using hand and feet warmers plus about five pairs of socks! We were out driving for about an hour and a half but did break halfway for hot juice and a campfire where they tell stories for the children.

Once we finished the excursion, we returned to our cabin for a lovely home cooked meal and then to bed for an early start for our search for Santa!

Day 2 – Meet Santa

We were up early and super excited for our ‘Search for Santa day’!!!

There were a host of activities included for the day…

  • Private meeting with Santa Claus
  • Reindeer Sleigh Ride
  • Husky Sleigh Ride
  • Igloo Fantasia
  • Ice Fishing
  • Santa’s Reindeer Centre
  • Snow Hockey
  • Tandem Skiing
  • Tobogganing
  • 2 course hot lunch included.

The activities included are brilliant for adults and children of all ages.

Huskey Sledge Ride

The highlight of this day for me was the Husky Sleigh Ride as the dogs are so full of energy and cannot wait to get going. Driving the Husky’s, you must remember to put your foot on the brake otherwise they will just keep going!

Huskies

As we were out in the forest all day, we were able to warm up in the tepees which have a lovely open fire and offered a hot berry juice with either a warm jam crepe or cookie. We could stay in there for as long as we needed, so we were nice and warm to carry on for the activities.

Lunch was provided in a huge log cabin where everyone welcomes the warmth and delicious food provided in the middle of day.

We had a time allocated to catch the Sleigh Ride over to a house in the forest where we are taken by the Elves to help find Santa!!

Once we finished our day of activities, we were back on the coach for 4pm and headed back to the cabin where our lovely host had drinks and snacks ready.

We ended the evening with a lovely home cooked meal in our cabin and enjoyed the open fire while looking out to the snowy forest.

Day 3 – The Star Artic Hotel and homeward bound

Santa’s Star Arctic Hotel

In the morning we headed over to the luxurious Santa’s Star Arctic Hotel for a lovely breakfast with an amazing view.

It was then time to head to the airport for our flight home, departing at 1pm. We enjoyed the coach ride back looking at the wilderness of the snowy forest.

I was so excited to get home and tell everyone what a fantastic trip it was. Whatever age you are, you will no doubt enjoy this magical experience. There is so much more for you to see and experience, surprises around every corner. In my eyes this is a must trip!
