Windsurfing Holidays in Greece
There is a reason why Naxos is such a fantastic destination for a windsurfing holiday. Not only has it been voted one of the most beautiful islands in the world, the strong and consistent Meltimi winds create fun and exciting conditions for all windsurfing levels.
It also suits the non-windsurfer with loads to do including mountain biking, horse riding, snorkeling, stand up paddleboarding and exploring beautiful towns. Whether you’re planning one week, two or more, going with the family or solo travelling, Naxos is the ideal summer location for a windsurfing holiday.
Situated in the South Aegean and the largest of the Cyclades Island, Naxos is blessed with gorgeous long golden sand beaches with stunning blue waters. Subtle and understated, Naxos is not a place that attracts the mass UK sun bathers, large touristy groups or party goers. This gives the island a more local and traditional Greek feel with delicious restaurants, green olive groves and beautiful old churches.
The main reason why Naxos has kept its charm and UK tourists at bay is because there are no direct flights. This really is a blessing and you will appreciate the extra effort once relaxing on quiet and secluded beaches.
To get to Naxos, you either take a ferry from Athens, Mykonos or Santorini although the fastest way without doubt, is to hop onto the domestic Olympic service from Athens international airport which should take no more than 30 minutes.
Windsurfing Conditions in Naxos
The windsurfing in Naxos is at Flisvos Sports Club, which is located in the best spot on the island. You can have perfect flat water in the safe and shallow lagoon which is ideal for learning, or go across the bar and have a fun wave session. The cross-onshore wind at the wave spot often makes it feel very similar to a South Coast UK session.
The equipment hire includes the latest Neil Pryde and RRD sails and RRD boards, so you’ll be sure to have the best kit to make the most of your time on the water. Although the temperature will be hot, we recommend you bring a shorty just in case you feel the wind chill. There are also lessons available if you wanted to brush up on any particular skill.
Season: May – September
Ability Levels: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
Wind: 15 – 25 knots
