Celebrity Silhouette Cruise Review

Our travel expert Josie embarked on a 12-night Caribbean cruise on board the newly “revolutionised” ship. Read on to discover what she loved in her review of the stunning Celebrity Silhouette:

Silhouette cruise ship

Celebrity has a fleet of 14 ships from ultra-modern eco ships, to the classic Caribbean cruises and even a small fleet in the Galapagos.

The Celebrity Silhouette is part of the Solstice Class and is one of the first of her class to undergo the refurbishment. Although Celebrity has a big presence in the Florida ports, there’s ships all over the world, from the UK to the Med, Middle east, Far East and Sydney.

Some of the Celebrity fleet are big ships, but they don’t hold half as many people as they can. There is always a quiet place to tuck away and that’s one of the reasons I love these ships so much.

Where does Celebrity Silhouette sail to?

Our Itinerary started in the beautiful beach side town of Fort Lauderdale, and included stops in the US Virgin Islands, Antigua, St Lucia, Barbados, Grenada, St Kitts and St Vincent.

Celebrity do try and change around their port stops on their itineraries, so each cruise you go on – there is always a few islands you have not done before. Last year we did the ABC islands, and next year we are off to Puerto Rico and the Dominican for a change, sailing out of Tampa.

Celebrity Silhouettes cabin reviews

The ship underwent a 4-month renovation to bring her up to the edge class standards, and we were lucky enough to be some of the first people back on board.

Every stateroom got a complete renovation, new carpets, mattresses and fixtures – an overall lighter refreshing look.

Silhouette room review

Ocean View Cabin

I stayed in an Ocean View Cabin, and the In Laws treated themselves to the Celebrity suite, to try out the new retreat benefits.  The layout of the Interior/ Ocean View and Balcony Cabins are very similar, they all have a lovely little bathroom with a walk in shower and plenty of bathroom storage, great for someone like me who takes enough products to last a year.

The bedrooms all have a Huge double bed – that can convert to twins. The comfiest Pillows, a small sofa, interactive TV and plenty of storage for clothes.

The stateroom attendants are fantastic, and you still feel like you are in a 5* hotel – even when in one of the lowest room categories, that’s the Celebrity Service for you.

Celebrity Suite Cabins

As you can imagine, the Celebrity suite is very different to the normal Cabins, and the suites have also undergone a complete renovation. The Celebrity suite is a great room for those who like to have a little more space.

The suite comes with a separate bedroom, walk in wardrobe, a huge bathroom with a Bath and overhead shower, living room with a 70 inch HD flatscreen TV and a lovely wide balcony with a table and chairs and Lounge chairs.

What is the retreat on celebrity?

Sunset bar

With the refurbishment, the highly anticipated retreat deck was added to the ship. The Retreat Deck was introduced on the Celebrity Edge. The retreat Deck is located at the front of the ship, and it is an exclusive deck for Suite guests only.

It is a lovely quiet place to relax, with plus sun loungers, a hot tub and some great staff there to wait on your hand and foot. Great for people who love to relax in the quiet and spot a dolphin or two!

Along with the retreat deck, there’s also Lumiere, an anytime dining restaurant for Suite guests, and the Retreat Lounge. Although you will spend more to stay in a suite, it’s a very different experience and I can see the benefits of it.

Along with all the suite only benefits, you also get a hefty on board spending, free Drinks package and exclusive deals ( depending on the package you book) but best of all, you get a suite Butler who is there 24/7. Our butler Alexander helped us with dining reservations, in room dining – booking Spa appointments, laundry – anything you can possibly think of!

It’s not all about the Suite life though, if you are booking in an Interior, Oceanview on Balcony or Aqua class – depending on when you book, you will still get the option of a few perks. We always go for the Drinks package and the WIFI, but you can also have On board credit, gratuities – and there are many packages you can add on after booking to enhance your celebrity experience.

The restaurants on the Celebrity Silhouette

Celebrity are best known for their award-winning on-board dining.

On board, you have access to the main Dining room with sit down times of 6:30. 8:30 or anytime. This three-course dining experience is not to be missed.

The service is that of a 5* restaurant, and the food is incredible, especially the deserts!

Breakfast Lunch and Dinner is served in the main dining room, and dress code is required.

The Ocean view café is a great buffet restaurant available for breakfast lunch and dinner as well as afternoon tea. It is a little more relaxed in here, but again the food is second to none. They serve everything you can imagine from Mexican to India, Italian, English and French. The menu changed daily, and it’s hands down the best buffet I have been to.

There’s also a lovely little café with tea and cakes, a healthy eating station with amazing smoothies in the Solarium, and the grill for those burger and chips lovers on the pool deck.

You also have the choice of Celebrity’s Select dining restuarants that you can book onboard for that extra experience. They do charge a small fee or around 20-50 USD per person, but they are worth trying out. Murano is the French restaurant, Tuscan Grille is a seafood steakhouse, Blu, which is for Aqua class guests, The Lawn club grille and  Lumiere which is for Suite guests. The best of all has to be Qusine, a unique experience where guests order meals from an Ipad and the meals are served in non-traditional ways using boxes, shelves and other objects

Celebrity Silhouettes Facilities and Entertainment

For me, I love to lounge around the Pool and take in the Caribbean Sun, but there are those who go for the on-board experience and facilities. Every night in your stateroom, you are given a “what’s on” Newsletter. This is filled with exclusive offers and discounts around the ship as well as a daily activity schedule.

From Morning yoga sessions, to cooking classes, exclusive tours of the ship, beauty tips, lectures, games around the ship and excursion talks and the Cinema.

The evening schedule is just as jammed pack, from bands, to themed Chic nights – Music in the nightclub, performances in the Theatre and my favourite, Big roller nights in the Casino.

There really is something for everyone, but also you have the beauty of doing nothing if you wanted. Most nights where people were partying in the foyer, my partner and I went for a late-night swim in the solarium, we were the only ones.

Celebrity Silhouette destinations

Obviously, the big part of going on a cruise is the destination. I love waking up to a different island each morning. Now I am a big beach person, so I tend to hop in a taxi and head straight for a beach, but there are those who love to explore.

For the explorers, I would recommend excursions. You can book these on board, or you can also book in the cruise port when you get off the ship with the local vendors.

The Vendors inside the cruise terminal are all regulated, and it is great to put back into the economy.

If you are a beach person, make sure you research the beaches before you go. Some can be quite loud with beach clubs and loads of Sun loungers. I prefer the smaller pristine beaches, with a little beach bar and “Dr Pecker” who sells the best Rum Punches! After all, you are in the Caribbean.

Silhouette cruise review

Overview of Celebrity Silhouette review

I have racked up a few cruises at the age of 26, but I would highly recommend a celebrity cruise for your next cruise. The ships are adult orientated (Kids are allowed on board, but there is no kids facilities apart from a kid’s club). The Chic nights are fabulous, we love dressing up and having a great night in the various Cocktail bars. The ships are Modern, comfortable, impeccably clean and full of things to do. The food and service are second to none, but best of all, the ships are good fun, and the guests are so friendly.

I have my third celebrity cruise booked for next year on board Constellation, and I am looking forward to seeing what she is like. This one Is 9 nights sailing from Tampa and features Puerto Rico, St Kitts, St Maarten, St Thomas and the Dominican Republic.

There are some fabulous deals out for 2021+2022 for itineraries around the world. And currently there’s a great promotion on The choose two perk offer which is very popular. If you have any questions, or if you wanted to look at a future itinerary, I would love to help you.

Frequently asked questions about Celebrity Cruise Holidays

What’s the age range on board Celebrity?

Well I’m 26 and my partner is 30, but generally the age range is between 30 – 60.

Are the formal nights compulsory?

Celebrity replaced its formal nights with “Evening Chic” Recommendations for women include cocktail dresses, dress pants or designer jeans and an elegant top. For men, the recommendations include slacks or designer jeans and a button-up shirt or sweater. Passengers not dining in the main dining room on these nights are not subject to the dress code.

Is the Onboard Laundry included?

There is a small charge for the laundry on board. Your stateroom attendant will collect the items and return them to you shortly. You can also get your formal wear pressed or dry cleaned so you don’t have to worry about creases when packing.

Do I have to book the speciality restaurants?

Yes I would highly recommend pre booking, you can either do this on the Celebrity cruises manage my booking APP, or you can book on board.

Do I have to pre book excursions?

You can pre book excursions on the Celebrity cruises manage my booking APP, however there is also an excursion desk on board where you can book and add to your on-board account. They are very helpful and have some great tips!

Do I need money on board?

Everything you purchase on board will get added to your on-board account which you will pay for at the end of the cruise. You can check your spending on the APP and on your stateroom TV. You will be asked to link a card to your account before boarding.  We do recommend you take some local currency when you are on the islands (the majority of the Caribbean takes US dollars) and there is also an ATM on board.
