Customer Travel Stories – An Icelandic Experience

Meon Valley Travel customer Sean recently came back from Iceland, and from the sound of it he had a brilliant time! So much so he wanted to share his experience with us…read on to find out more.

The trip to Iceland was a wonderful experience and something I would highly recommend!

The hotel I stayed in was basic but perfectly located within a very short walk of all the shops and restaurants. It’s also comfortable with a good selection of breakfast foods on offer to set you up for the day. It’s ideal as a base for exploring on your own and or meeting the Coaches for daily excursions. The bus stop is literally at the end of the road (100m) at a rough guess.

There is a bay where the Sun Voyager sculpture is located which is a little further than the main shopping area but perfectly manageable for those that like to walk and explore a little on their own.

The Icelandic people were so friendly and accommodating!

Eating out and drinking can be very expensive like the other Nordic countries but that’s just something you accept, just enjoy the moment creating precious memories…

All of the excursions were good and although the golden circle half day tour was really good some people may find they need a little more time (1hr max) at some of the stops to walk around and  explore!

The Blue Lagoon was a fabulous experience too. You can spend as long as you like there with the admission ticket (doesn’t seem to be any time restriction on entry that I could see)

The basic package will only give you a towel and a face treatment plus access to the pools. Others like myself paid extra to upgrade to get a bath robe and flip flops for more comfort when walking around out of the water.

Buses from the Lagoon back to Reykjavik are every hour so you can leave whenever you want!

The Northern Lights were postponed from the first night until our last night, not due to the weather but very low solar activity!

We did get to see them although it was termed a medium event by the tour operator due to the low activity and very changeable weather. The operator did offer another trip free of charge on another night to get a better experience but sadly it was our last night!

A word of warning to anyone going… You really do need to wrap up warm on the Northern lights trip (as with all the trips) the areas they take you are very exposed and in the wind can be perishingly cold! Several people on the excursions grossly underestimated this.

All in all this was a wonderful destination and experience, I’d definitely do it again someday and explore a bit more such as the south shore.

A big thanks to you and your team for arranging this trip of a lifetime!
