Our medical repatriations team have to deal with airlines from across the globe to bring people back from destinations far and wide when they are ill or injured. We pride ourselves on the relationships we build with airlines and our knowledge of the products and services they offer.  So when Virgin Atlantic offered us the opportunity to spend the day experiencing their Upper Class product and service at Heathrow, we jumped at the chance to check in (pun intended!) with what they offer customers.

Here’s our review of the experience:

Arrivals Lounge

We started off at the Revivals lounge, which is Virgin’s Arrivals lounge product. Customers flying into Heathrow in Upper Class are able to use the lounge to freshen up and get ready for the day ahead. The lounge has large showers, a spa, WiFi and the option of a cooked breakfast if you haven’t eaten on the plane. We loved the extra little touches they offer, for example, if your clothes are looking a little crumpled after a long flight, they offer a great service where they will press them and return them to you for after your shower. We also loved that if have time you can enjoy a spa treatment, what a perfect end to a trip, whatever your reason for travelling!

Business Class check-in and the Clubhouse Lounge

Virgin offer private check-in and security for Upper Class customers which feels really luxurious, especially if you’ve taken advantage of the chauffeur option as well! You are greeted on arrival by a member of the Virgin team who will take your luggage, check you in and show you to the private security area which leads straight to the signature Virgin Clubhouse lounge.

The Clubhouse lounge is a real experience and feels more like you are in a hotel than an airport! We enjoyed some of the food and tried the famous ‘Virgin Redhead’ cocktail which we loved! As self-confessed aviation geeks, we also found some time to sit in the ‘Igloo’ which is a chilled quiet area where you can watch the planes as they come and go. The lounge caters for most customers and includes a quiet zone for those who want to work or read, a TV zone (perfect for big events, we’ve heard this area is a lot of fun during Wimbledon!), a sports zone with a pool table, a children’s area where the little ones can be entertained with fun toys and books and finally a spa which offers all kinds of treatments from massages, to facials to a manicure (additional costs may apply).

The aircraft

We were lucky to have a tour of both the Delta 767 and the Virgin 787. It was really interesting to see the difference between the two products and we particularly liked how much privacy the Virgin Upper Class seat gave customers in comparison to the Delta seat and the large TV screen which tilts so you can still see it when lying in your flatbed! One unique feature of the Virgin 787 was the bar area which enables customers to socialise and enjoy a drink during the flight away from your seat, a perfect way to stretch your legs and pass the time on a long flight. To top the tour off we were also allowed a sneak peak of the cockpit which made our day!

Thank you to Virgin for choosing us to spend the day with them, experiencing the ‘Upper Class’ experience at Heathrow!
