British Airways will offer Wi-Fi internet access onboard its short-haul services from 2017, owner IAG has announced.

In a statement, the company confirmed that its other airlines Aer Lingus, Iberia and Vueling would also provide Wi-Fi on short-haul services by the end of next year.

IAG added that up to 341 of its aircraft would be fitted with Wi-Fi technology and that it aimed to have 90% of its fleet providing “high quality connectivity” by 2019.

IAG chief executive Willie Walsh, said: “We are giving our customers the fastest connectivity you can get on any aircraft. Having announced Wi-Fi for long-haul flights earlier this year we are now equipping our airlines’ short-haul fleets with in-flight broadband access.

“Connectivity is essential because it’s what our customers demand and IAG will be the first European airline group to offer high-quality air to ground Wi-Fi on short-haul flights.”
